Description
Care & Seasoning

Before your first use

  • Every piece ships pre-seasoned with vegetable oil, but a quick re-season before first use builds an even stronger, more durable surface
  • Rinse with warm water only — no soap needed on the very first wash
  • Dry completely, then rub a thin, even layer of cooking oil over the entire surface
  • Heat on low-medium flame for 5 minutes, let cool, and it's ready to cook

After every use

  • Clean with warm water and a soft brush or sponge — avoid soap and steel wool, which strip the seasoning
  • Dry immediately and thoroughly on low heat to prevent rust — cast iron should never air-dry
  • Apply a light coat of oil while the pan is still slightly warm, then wipe off any excess

Building seasoning over time

  • Seasoning strengthens with regular use — the more you cook, the more naturally non-stick it becomes
  • If food starts sticking or the surface looks dull or patchy, simply repeat the seasoning steps above
  • A little rust on the surface is normal and easily fixed — scrub gently, dry fully, and re-season; it doesn't mean the pan is damaged

Good to know

  • Avoid cooking highly acidic foods (like tomato-heavy curries) for extended periods until seasoning is well-built up
  • Store in a dry place; a thin film of oil before storing prevents moisture buildup

My dosas are finally as good as the restaurant ones

I've been trying to make restaurant-style dosas at home for years. The problem was always my tawa — thin aluminium that had hot spots and never held heat consistently. This cast iron tawa changed everything. The heat is perfectly even across the entire surface. I spread the batter and it cooks uniformly — thin, crispy, golden. My first batch of 8 dosas, every single one came out the same. I was genuinely shocked. This tawa is the missing ingredient I've been looking for.

Best roti tawa I've ever used — soft rotis every time

I've gone through four or five tawas over the years looking for one that makes perfectly soft rotis. Some burnt the edges, some had hot spots, some warped after a few months. This cast iron tawa is the first one that delivers consistent results. The heat is steady and even. Rotis puff up beautifully and come out soft in the centre with a light char on the edges — exactly what a good roti should be. My family has noticed the difference immediately.

28cm is the perfect size — fits comfortably on my gas burner

I was initially worried that 28cm might be too large for my standard 3-burner gas stove, but it fits perfectly on the large burner with room to spare. The tawa heats up evenly without any overcrowding. I can make a full-size dosa or two rotis side by side. The long handle makes it easy to position on the burner safely. The size is exactly right — not too small that rotis touch the edges, not so large it's unmanageable.

Excellent tawa — takes a bit of patience in the first two weeks

This tawa is genuinely excellent in every measurable way — the heat distribution is outstanding, the build quality is solid, the handle is well-designed, and I can already see the seasoning improving rapidly. My only reason for four stars rather than five is that the first two weeks required more patience and attention than I expected. Dosas stuck slightly on days 3 and 5 despite following the instructions. A few oil-heavy cooking sessions and a re-season fixed it, but I was frustrated in the moment. By week three it was cooking beautifully and now at week five it's as good as I hoped. If you buy this, just commit to the learning period. It's completely worth it. Four stars for the initial friction, five stars for everything after.

The long handle is the feature I didn't know I needed

I used to burn my knuckles regularly on my old tawa's short handle while spreading dosa batter or pressing down on roti. The long handle on this tawa keeps your hand completely clear of the heat. I can spread batter, press the roti with a folded cloth, flip it — all without any discomfort. Such a practical design improvement. Combined with the excellent cooking performance, this tawa is a genuine upgrade in every way.

Consistent heat from first dosa to last — no more reheating gaps

My biggest frustration with my old non-stick tawa was that after making 2-3 dosas, the temperature would drop and I'd have to wait for it to reheat before the next one. This cast iron tawa retains heat so well that there's virtually no wait between dosas. The temperature stays consistent from the first to the last dosa in a batch. I made 12 dosas in a row and every one came out the same. Heat retention is the superpower of cast iron.

Zero Teflon — I cook my kids' food on this confidently

I switched away from non-stick tawas entirely because of concerns about PTFE and PFOA. My children eat rotis and dosas daily and I didn't want to keep using a coated surface that was starting to show wear. This cast iron tawa is completely chemical-free — just iron and vegetable oil seasoning. Cooking their food on it feels completely safe. The rotis come out beautifully too. A genuine win for both health and performance.

Very good tawa overall — wish the handle were slightly shorter for my small kitchen

I want to be clear that this tawa cooks exceptionally well — even heat, excellent pre-seasoning, great build quality, and the dosas and rotis I make on it are noticeably better than before. My only personal gripe is that the long handle, while generally a great design feature, is slightly too long for my small kitchen setup. I have limited counter space and a small stove, and the handle extends past my countertop when the tawa is on the back burner. It's a personal preference issue, not a quality issue, and I imagine most people with standard kitchens won't have this problem at all. On performance and quality alone, this is a five-star product. Four stars only because of this specific inconvenience for my setup.

Parathas come out golden and flaky — restaurant quality at home

Making parathas well requires a tawa that holds high heat consistently. My old thin tawa would lose temperature when I pressed the paratha down, resulting in unevenly cooked, slightly chewy results. This cast iron tawa maintains heat under pressure — when I press the paratha, the entire surface is hot enough to cook it through. The result is golden, flaky parathas that are properly cooked throughout. My guests always ask me what I changed in my cooking. It's this tawa.

Replaced three non-stick tawas with this one cast iron

In five years I went through three non-stick tawas. Each one started well, then the coating wore off, then I replaced it. Every time I spent money, generated waste, and started again. This cast iron tawa will be my last tawa purchase. No coating to wear off, no replacement needed. The iron only gets better with use. Three tawas worth of spending and disappointment, all replaced by one smart purchase. This is the economical and sustainable choice.

Pre-seasoning was excellent — usable from day one

I've ordered cast iron from other brands where the pre-seasoning was minimal and the first few uses were difficult. This tawa from Evvolife was different — the pre-seasoning was thorough and even. I did the initial re-season as recommended (dried, oiled, heated on low flame for 5 minutes) and the first dosa I made came out perfectly. No sticking, no metallic taste, no drama. The investment in proper pre-seasoning before shipping is something I really appreciate.

Works beautifully on induction — finally a tawa that does

I have an induction cooktop and finding a good tawa for it has always been a challenge. Most tawas are slightly curved and don't sit flat on induction. This cast iron tawa has a perfectly flat base — it sits on my induction surface without any wobble and heats evenly right from the start. Dosas and rotis cook exactly as they should. If you're on induction and struggling to find a good tawa, this is the answer.

My mother-in-law approved — the highest possible praise

My mother-in-law is a superb cook and extremely particular about her equipment. When she visited and saw this tawa, she immediately made dosas on it and declared it excellent. She said it reminded her of the iron tawa her mother used. Coming from her, this is the highest possible praise. She ended up asking me to order one for her too. A tawa that meets the approval of someone who has been cooking for 40 years is genuinely good.

The seasoning improves visibly every week

I've had this tawa for about three months and the improvement in its surface over that time has been remarkable. When it arrived, the surface was a medium dark grey. Today it's a deep, near-black with a beautiful slight sheen. The non-stick quality improves week by week — what required a bit of oil in week one now requires almost none. This is the cast iron experience: a pan that rewards consistent use by becoming better at its job.

Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside — perfect dosas

Making dosa in cast iron is a revelation. The even heat creates a thin, uniformly crispy surface. My dosas now have that golden crunch that only restaurants seemed to achieve before. The key is that cast iron doesn't have cold spots — every part of the surface is at the same temperature. I also noticed that I need less oil now than with my old tawa because the cast iron surface releases dosas naturally once they're cooked. Incredible.

Made uttapam for the first time and it came out perfect

I've always avoided making uttapam at home because my old tawa would cause it to cook unevenly — crispy in the centre, undercooked at the edges. On this cast iron tawa, the batter spreads evenly and cooks uniformly from edge to centre. The toppings (onions, tomatoes, green chilli) got a lovely golden colour. My uttapam looked and tasted better than what I get at the Udupi restaurant down the road. Blown away.

No warping under high heat — rock solid stability

My previous stainless tawa warped after about a year of high-heat use. It started rocking on the burner and dosas cooked unevenly because of the wobble. This cast iron tawa is 2.5kg of solid iron — it will not warp under any normal cooking temperature. It sits absolutely flat on the burner and stays flat. For a cooking tool I use daily, this stability and permanence is enormously reassuring. Something this solid belongs in every Indian kitchen.

Rotis puff up on their own now — magical

When I make rotis on this tawa and then hold them directly over the flame, they puff up into perfect balloons — the way my mother's used to when she cooked on her old iron tawa. My previous non-stick tawa never produced rotis that puffed properly. The heat retention and surface quality of cast iron is what makes the difference. Proper phulkas, properly puffed, every single time. This tawa brought back a childhood memory of cooking.

Cleaned up easily — completely different from what I expected

I was told cast iron is hard to clean and I almost didn't buy it for that reason. Three months of daily use later, I can tell you it's actually simpler to clean than my old non-stick. Rinse with warm water while still warm, scrub with a soft brush, dry on the flame for two minutes, wipe with a tiny bit of oil. Five minutes total. And I never worry about damaging the surface the way I always worried about scratching non-stick. A maintenance routine that's easier than what it replaced.

The handle design makes one-handed flipping easy

Flipping rotis and turning dosas requires quick, confident movement. The long handle on this tawa gives you the leverage and control to do this comfortably. It's well-balanced — the tawa doesn't tip forward when held at the handle. I can flip a roti with a single wrist motion without worrying about the tawa moving or the handle being too short to get a proper grip. Small ergonomic detail, big practical difference.

My entire family switched to this tawa within a week

I bought this for myself but within a week my sister and mother both wanted one. I ended up ordering two more. All three of us cook daily — dosas, rotis, chillas, parathas — and we've all noticed the same things: more even cooking, better results, easier cleaning. The three of us have now collectively thrown away four non-stick tawas. When a product convinces three separate households simultaneously, you know it's genuinely excellent.

Handles high heat for making laccha paratha with ease

Laccha paratha requires sustained high heat to properly separate the layers and cook each one without burning the outside. My old tawa couldn't handle it — the outside would burn before the layers inside cooked through. This cast iron tawa holds high heat steadily and evenly, allowing the layers to separate and cook at the right rate. My laccha paratha now has the proper crispy, layered structure I was always trying to achieve. High-heat cooking is where cast iron really excels.

Used it for besan chilla — came out wonderfully

I make besan chilla regularly as a protein-rich breakfast. On my old non-stick, the chilla would sometimes tear when flipping because the surface wasn't hot enough. On this cast iron tawa, preheated properly, the chilla cooks quickly and evenly, sets firmly, and flips cleanly in one piece. The slight char on the outside adds flavour and the inside stays soft. A simple breakfast elevated by a better cooking surface.

Iron from cookware adds to my diet — a real health benefit

My nutritionist suggested I switch to cast iron cookware partly for the dietary iron it adds to food during cooking — a genuine, measurable health benefit. I've been using this tawa daily for four months for my rotis and dosas. My iron levels have improved and I no longer need the supplement I was taking. The tawa also performs superbly — even heat, easy to use, gets better over time. Health benefit and great performance in one product.

Perfect for making pesarattu — moong dosa comes out crispy

Pesarattu (moong dal dosa) is my Sunday morning specialty and it requires very even heat to get the thin, crispy texture right. My previous tawa always had one corner that was hotter and those pesarattus would brown unevenly. This cast iron tawa is completely uniform in temperature. Every pesarattu comes out evenly golden and crispy. My family says my Sunday breakfast has gone up a level. The tawa deserves the credit.

The 2.5kg weight means it stays perfectly stable on the burner

I've had tawas that would shift on the burner when I pressed down to cook a roti. With 2.5kg of cast iron, this tawa does not move. It sits absolutely still while I press, flip, and manoeuvre the food. For dosas where you need to spread batter quickly without the tawa shifting, this stability is essential. The weight is a feature, not a flaw. Once you get used to lifting it with both hands when needed, it becomes completely natural.

Made sourdough pancakes on it — unexpectedly brilliant

My daughter is into sourdough baking and uses the discard to make sourdough pancakes. We tried making them on this tawa and the results were extraordinary. The cast iron distributes heat so evenly that each pancake cooked uniformly with a perfect golden colour. The outside was slightly crispy while the inside was light and fluffy. We're now making pancakes on it every weekend. A tawa built for Indian cooking that handles Western breakfast equally well.
